The terrific carnitine concentration gradient between epidydimal lumen and plasma is allowed by the presence of OCTN2 at the blood side and by the presence of another carnitine specific transporter, namely CT2 (SLC22A16) on the lumen side of epithelia (Koepsell, 2013)
