When you have a land like Blighted Cataract in your deck, the idea is usually that you are trying to bias high on lands so that you can curve out to midrange drops readily but are trying to mitigate flood by cashing in your lands for value when you draw too many

That's why you use Drain Life, Corrupt, Soul Burn, and Zuran Orb to make sure you have plenty of cards to draw

As an avid Modern player, I say good riddance, and I really hope the design team is more careful with the printing of Delve cards in the future
